A relative of Hedione (in Japanese), Splendione is a synthetic fragrance material created by Firmenich (in Japanese) in 2012 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hedione’s commercialization and make the scent of jasmine (in Japanese) available at a more affordable price. It is long-lasting and gives perfumes a white-floral character even in small amounts.
What Does It Smell Like in Perfume?
In perfume, it adds a soft, transparent floral character reminiscent of jasmine petals. Splendione is Firmenich’s trade name for methyl jasmonate. It has a smooth sweetness like the heart of a flower, with a subtle tea-like nuance, adding brightness and body to lily-of-the-valley and white-flower scents. Hedione is a different fragrance material based primarily on methyl dihydrojasmonate; its more airy diffusion gives it a different expression and role in a fragrance.
