Always approach perfume with a light touch. Because of the way this industry works, more projects are rejected than won. My motto is that you need the ability to take a philosophical attitude toward deception and to throw yourself into the projects you win.
Emilie Coppermann
Career in Perfumery
For me, smells are far more emotional than visual things such as photography or fashion. Clothes are more rational. People talk about a skirt’s length or cut. The art of perfume operates by entirely different rules.
Emilie Coppermann
Born in Paris and raised by free-spirited parents, Emilie Coppermann (Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann) wanted to become a perfumer from childhood. The turning point came at around 13, when she visited a Rochas factory and spoke with Nicolas Mamounias, a perfumer working there. After earning a degree in chemistry, she enrolled at ISIPCA. Following graduation, she joined Florasynth in 1998, studying perfumery under Jean-Louis Sieuzac (in Japanese), Dominique Ropion (in Japanese), and Maurice Roucel (in Japanese). She continued working there after the company became Symrise (in Japanese), and became one of its Master Perfumers (in Japanese) in 2016.
She received the Prix Lalique in 2012 and the Prix François Coty (in Japanese) in 2018.
Her grandmother, who loved Chanel (in Japanese) perfumes, and travels abroad to places such as Tanzania and Japan also seem to have influenced her imagination. She is also a mother of four.
Perfume Creations
My approach is very simple and free. I can tell afterward if I have gone too far. My relationships with brands are also built on trust and harmony. They inspire me, and I know they have very knowledgeable customers.
