Ginger Lily

A relative of lilies, ginger lily is also known as butterfly lily because of its butterfly-like white flowers. It is native to places such as eastern India, China, Myanmar, and Taiwan, and grows in warm climates. The plants found in Hawaii and Cuba are also well known.
Its scent recalls tuberose (in Japanese) and gardenia (in Japanese), with a fresh, sweet, tropical floral bouquet that includes a ginger-like fruitiness and a rich floral sweetness.

What Does It Smell Like in Perfume?

In perfume, the soft sweetness of white flowers is layered with a refreshing, ginger-like spiciness, creating a bright, exotic floral impression. The common name “ginger lily” is used for several plants and plant parts, but the absolute obtained from the flowers of Hedychium coronarium is a natural fragrance material combining white-floral and ginger-like notes. Even within the same plant, the aromatic components of the flowers, leaves, and rhizomes differ, so the flower absolute is treated separately from essential oils obtained from the rhizomes or leaves.
