“Our objects are not simply accessories, but tools of transformation. Wear them under a tuxedo, over a blouse, or directly on bare skin. We would like you to wear them even when going to the supermarket.”

The brand name “Hedonik” derives from the English word “hedonic,” meaning relating to pleasure. It evokes “hedonism,” a concept in Greek philosophy associated with pleasure and enjoyment, and directly embodies the brand’s world. In Japanese, its pronunciation is often rendered as “Hidoniku.”
The Founder and the Origins of the Brand
Sensibilities Nurtured in Florence
Francesca Bianchi was born and raised among fashion manufacturers in Florence, in Italy’s Tuscany region. Surrounded from childhood by fine textiles and leather goods, skilled artisans, and designers, she grew up in an environment that quietly shaped the aesthetic foundations of her later brand.
In an interview, she described this formative experience as follows.
“My parents were artisans. I also met many artisans who practiced highly refined handwork in clothing and leather processing. Seeing the production process and understanding how things are made is still an asset that helps me develop new projects.”
— Francesca Bianchi
Her first encounters with fragrance also date back to childhood. She shared Yves Saint Laurent’s Paris with her older sister. Because the scent reminded her of someone close to her, she says she has felt a profound connection between fragrance and emotion ever since.
“The first perfume I bought with my own pocket money, at fourteen, was Dior’s Poison. By seventeen I had ten perfumes, quite a few compared with friends my age. While they had one or none, my collection reflected deep emotional connections rather than an interest in perfume notes.”
— Francesca Bianchi
From Florence to Berlin and Amsterdam
Francesca studied art history at university in Florence. After graduating, she worked in art-book publishing while moving among several cities: Florence, Berlin, Luxembourg, and eventually Amsterdam.
According to Perfume Lounge’s profile, she began teaching herself perfumery at the age of 28. A book on natural perfumery and a few essential oils were her starting point.
“After earning a degree in art history, a book on natural perfumery and a handful of essential oils sparked my passion for making fragrance. At the time, I was also fascinated by alchemy, though it took me a while to understand how deeply it was connected to creating perfume.”
— Francesca Bianchi, from the brand statement
She later reflected on her self-taught journey in these words.
“Looking back, I realize that I embarked on an enormous journey filled with obstacles, setbacks, dead ends, and second and third starts. Now that I have gained a little knowledge, I understand the immeasurable depth of my ignorance. So I have given up the ambition of mastering everything and choose instead to concentrate on specific projects, steadily expanding the knowledge relevant to them.”
— Francesca Bianchi
An encounter with renowned Florentine perfumer Lorenzo Villoresi provided emotional support along this self-taught path. She says that she met him “at a time of great existential uncertainty,” and that his encouragement helped her see perfume-making not as “an unattainable dream,” but as “a goal achievable through effort.”
An Amsterdam Atelier and Her First Brand
In 2016, Francesca created the first three perfumes under her own name in an attic in Amsterdam. Named The Dark Side, Angel’s Dust, and Sex and the Sea, all three were handmade in the highly concentrated format of extrait de parfum and quickly attracted the attention of perfume enthusiasts around the world.
Angel’s Dust in particular received a strong four-star rating from renowned perfume critic Luca Turin. Although Francesca had handled everything in her studio, from blending concentrates to bottling and packaging, rapidly increasing demand led her to outsource manufacturing to a small Italian artisan company after only about a year. Her brand has since grown to be sold in at least 45 countries and more than 150 stores.
The Birth of Hedonik: An Urge to Explore a “Pop-Fetish” World
Behind the birth of Hedonik was an idea Francesca had been nurturing for some time. In a 2020 interview, before the brand’s creation, she was already describing its beginnings.
“I’m currently working on a series of leather accessories that you could call ‘pop-fetish.’ I intend to launch a new brand to embody this new vision, and of course I’ll create a dedicated perfume for it.”
— Francesca Bianchi, from a 2020 interview
True to that declaration, Hedonik was founded in 2021. On September 4 of that year, the founder appeared in person at the curated boutique Smell Stories in Brussels, Belgium, to officially present the brand and its first fragrance, Divine Perversion.
Perfume Lounge described it by saying, “With Hedonik, Francesca Bianchi reveals her dark side.” If her eponymous brand represents an introspective, emotional world under the banner of “Liquid Emotion,” Hedonik can be seen as a space for “another form of self-expression,” more sensual, provocative, and playful.
What Defines the Brand
The Philosophy of “Objects of Pleasure”
Hedonik’s core concept is “creating objects of pleasure in every possible form.” Perfume is just one of those forms, with leather accessories such as chokers adorning the neck and studded belts also in the lineup. The brand aims to liberate a multifaceted identity that resists convention, expressed through keywords such as “pop-fetish, dark, rock, punk, and fun.”
Every product is offered without gender distinctions, with a consistent attitude that they can be used freely, “under a tuxedo, in the office, or in the bedroom.”
Materials and Craftsmanship Bridging Two Cities
Two cities, Amsterdam and Florence, intersect behind the products. Francesca herself designs the leather accessories in Amsterdam, and they are manufactured in Florence, one of the world’s leading centers for luxury leather.
There is no compromise in the perfumes either. They use the highest-quality raw materials sourced from a family-run company in Grasse, southern France, one of the world’s great centers of fragrance materials, while a small artisan company in Milan, Italy, handles the final bottling.
Leather as a “Personal Obsession”
Leather is the motif shared by every Hedonik perfume. For Francesca, it is both a material familiar since childhood and a note for which she has a “personal obsession” as a perfumer.
“I dedicated this perfume to the leather note because this material is central to the Hedonik brand and is also one of my favorite notes. Leather has an essential presence in this fragrance from the opening to the drydown. Because I love contradictions, I used sweet, fruity caramel notes in contrast with intense leather and amber notes.”
— Francesca Bianchi, on Divine Perversion
She also takes a clear position in her pursuit of sensuality. She says she makes active use of animalic notes to “add intensity, humanity, and carnality, making a perfume irresistibly sensual.”
The Fragrance Lineup
As of March 2026, Hedonik’s perfume line comprises three creations. All are offered as extraits de parfum, a highly concentrated perfume format, and are designed to be unisex.
Divine Perversion: 2021
Hedonik’s landmark debut. Under the concept of being “as addictive as a toxic love,” Francesca created this fragrance as a tribute to leather itself. Its structure is distinguished by the contrast between sweetness and sensuality.
- Top notes: Raspberry, pink pepper
- Heart notes: Rose, iris, caramel
- Base notes: Leather, amber, woody notes, animalic notes
Obsessive Devotion: 2023
The theme of the second fragrance is an “obsession” with champaca absolute, an extract of a yellow flower native to India. Francesca calls it an expression of her “feelings and reverence for a powerful perfumery material.”
“When I first smelled natural champaca absolute, I was completely captivated. It is an extraordinarily sensual material with many different facets… The name ‘Obsessive Devotion’ embodies my feelings and respect for this powerful perfume ingredient.”
— Francesca Bianchi
A floral chypre fragrance with an impressive, complex structure in which leather, oakmoss, and iris intertwine around champaca.
- Top notes: Grapefruit, bergamot
- Heart notes: Champaca, peach, ylang-ylang, pink pepper
- Base notes: Leather, patchouli, iris, oakmoss, sandalwood
Exquisite Affair: 2024
The third fragrance, unveiled at ESXENCE 2024, the international niche-perfume fair held in Milan. Its concept is “a secret affair between innocence and seduction.” At its heart is a dialogue between the seemingly opposing materials of peach and leather.
“Exquisite Affair captures a sweet and sexy essence in an unexpected liaison between peach and leather. It is a secret relationship between two contrasting yet complementary characters: innocence and seduction.”
— Francesca Bianchi
Its structure opens with the freshness of bergamot and green mandarin, passes through a heart where peach and osmanthus shine, and settles into a base layering animalic leather with vanilla and cotton candy.
- Top notes: Bergamot, mandarin, pink pepper
- Heart notes: Peach, osmanthus, cinnamon, cassis
- Base notes: Animalic leather, patchouli heart, sandalwood, cotton candy, vanilla
By the Way…
Hedonik’s perfume line is closely connected to its leather accessories. The brand also makes semi-fetish leather goods, including “luxury chokers adorning the neck and studded belts,” and its perfumes are designed to complement that world through scent. The official statement, “Put on the perfume, then decide whether to enter your office or your bedroom,” neatly captures the brand’s attitude.
Hedonik remains positioned as Francesca Bianchi’s “second brand.” While her eponymous house has at least 15 perfumes, Hedonik maintains a more focused, tightly curated lineup. Some have described it as an experimental space created for her “darker side” and “more sensual and provocative forms of expression.”
If there is a single thread running through the brand’s name, concept, and choice of fragrance notes, it is summed up in the founder’s own words.
“I think I’m fascinated by contradictions, and obsessed with them. And I want to express that through perfume.”
