Frédéric Malle, founder of the renowned niche fragrance brand (in Japanese) Editions de Parfum Frederic Malle, published a book to mark the brand’s tenth anniversary, explaining why Malle created the brand and the background to the fragrances created together with its perfumers. That book is On Perfume Making. It reveals secrets of Malle’s perfumes that are not written about in any other media.
Malle’s friend Catherine Deneuve (in Japanese) wrote the foreword, while another friend, Konstantin Kakanias, provided the cover illustration and the illustrations placed at key points throughout the book.
Already out of print, this is a volume that enthusiasts covet, a rare book that few people in Japan have in their hands.
The perfumers can approach their work as though they were writing a novel or creating a work of art. Money is not an issue at all. At our brand, they can use only the finest ingredients, and they need not stop until a true work of art is complete.
