Book Review
Collecting perfume bottles is a passion, a temptation, and a pleasure for the sense of smell.
Bernard Gangler
When it comes to publishers that bring high-quality books about perfume from abroad into Japanese, Hara Shobo comes to mind. This book, too, can only be described as wonderful. The author, a collector of perfume bottles and an auction expert, explores 1,000 perfume bottles. After devoting several dozen pages to the history of the perfume industry, the author introduces bottles you cannot see even in other books, including those from brands that once enjoyed great success, beautiful bottles by unknown makers, and elusive Louis Vuitton perfume bottles. After at least 300 pages presenting the collection, the book even discusses the mindset needed to become a collector, which makes it all the more interesting. It is more than worth its price.
