Le Chercheur de Parfum (LCP) uses Google Analytics on its blog, Perfume Finder and Perfume Tests to improve articles and usability. This page explains the information transmitted for analytics and how to disable measurement.
Services Covered
Information Sent to Google and Its Purpose
Information is sent to Google LLC and its affiliated companies. Google Analytics processes the following information to analyze browsing and interaction patterns.
- Usage information such as the pages and screens viewed, viewing dates and times, and time spent. On the blog, this also includes page URLs and referring sources
- Cookie identifiers and session information
- Browser, operating system, device, language, screen size and other details of the user’s environment
- IP addresses associated with communications and the approximate region inferred from them
Cookies are small pieces of information stored in a browser. Google Analytics primarily uses cookies such as “_ga” to distinguish users and visits.
LCP uses this information to identify frequently used articles and screens, see where people stop using a service, and improve usability. For information on Google’s handling of data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Measurement in the Perfume Finder and Perfume Tests
In the Perfume Finder and Perfume Tests, we measure the app, entry point, screen and step number used; whether an attempt is new, resumed or repeated; and events including starting, reaching each stage, completing, and clicking retailer links. We do not collect purchase records.
Answers, free-text input, names and email addresses, sharing tokens, and IDs of saved results are not sent to Google Analytics. Nor are the actual URLs opened or referring sources sent as they are.
These two apps are configured to load Google Analytics only when Cloudflare identifies the connection’s country as Japan. It is not loaded when the country is outside Japan, cannot be determined, or there is a problem with the country-detection process. If you have previously disabled measurement, that preference takes priority.
Saving and sharing answer data are separate from analytics. The Perfume Finder stores data mainly on your device and also offers shared links. The Perfume Tests save answers, short-text input, scores, progress and optional feedback in the service’s database.
How to Disable Analytics
In the Perfume Finder and Perfume Tests, use “Disable analytics” (アクセス解析を停止) at the bottom of each app’s screen. Use “Re-enable measurement” (計測停止を解除) to undo that preference.
The preference is saved separately for each browser and app and does not apply to measurement on the blog. Set it again if you use another device or browser, or clear your browser’s saved data. Disabling measurement does not delete information already transmitted or cookies already stored.
You can also disable Google Analytics measurement, including on the blog, in supported browsers by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
